First responders and other individuals may encounter disasters or critical incidents at any time. Some of these incidents can take a major emotional and/or physical toll. The International Critical Incident Stress Foundation, Inc. (ICISF) is committed to serving as a worldwide leader in education, training, consultation, and support services for comprehensive crisis intervention and disaster behavioral health services.
The organization provides essential training for individuals interested in becoming part of a crisis management team, as well as organizations focused on helping individuals and groups recover from incidents. Training is based on the Critical Incident Stress Management (CISM) model, which was developed by ICISF founders Dr. George Everly and Dr. Jeff Mitchell.
CISM equips individuals with the knowledge and skills to help their peers who have been involved in critical incidents to understand the emotional and physical challenges that may arise following the event. It allows first responders and others involved in incidents to process issues and prepare to continue to perform their service or return to a normal lifestyle.
The mission of the International Critical Incident Stress Foundation, Inc. is to be the leader in providing education, training, consultation, and support services in comprehensive crisis intervention and disaster behavioral health services to emergency responders, and other professions, organizations and communities worldwide.
